UCF School of Nursing--Greg Welch and Robot

I photographed Greg Welch, the Florida Hospital endowed chair in Healthcare Simulation in his lab at the University of Central Florida College of Nursing.  Greg specializes in:  "Virtual and augmented reality; human tracking systems; and human surrogates for training and telepresence."
Whatever that means.
All I know is that he has a really cool robot that I shot him with for the UCF Foundation.
The photograph was more complicated than it looks because the "face" of the robot was projected from inside, and any light of mine that hit the robot deleted the face.  I had to make separate exposures for the robot and Greg and then combine then in Photoshop.

Here's a story about Greg:

FFVA video and photos

This is the second year that the Florida Fruit and Vegetable Association has hired us to shoot stills and testimonial videos of farmers.  We shot in the general Belle Glade area and it's fascinating to see first-hand how our food is grown.  Corn, tomatoes, beans, potatoes, sugar cane, oranges, strawberries...we've done it all.  Lisa, our client at FFVA scheduled great farmers and made sure we were at the right place at the right time.  Agency:  Say It Loud, Julio Lima.
Video and editing:  Dan Dennis, FOTWE.

BASF

I was hired by the PadillaCRT agency in MN to shoot stills and video for a new product by BASF that helps kill insects that cause a lot of trouble for our local growers.  We went to a number of nurseries that specialize in plants and trees, along with the UF Agriculture Research Center.

UCF three students

Speaking of advance planning going wrong...this was the fun photo I had pre-planned and lighted with stand-ins, awaiting the "real" students to arrive.  The idea was that these students were the first in their family to go to college and I wanted to illustrate their upward move by using the rock climbing wall.

When they arrived, it was easy to figure out that this idea was not going to work, so I quickly changed to plan "B", which you always need to have.

And this is how it was used in the annual report

Also, I always told my photography students that you have to be able to pull off a decent headshot in a cramped location because you will invariably get asked to do that.

Embry-Riddle board of directors

Sometimes even the best planning just doesn't work out.  This was the case when everyone showed up for our outdoor sunrise board of directors photo except the chairman.  Quick adjustments had to made in very little time once he arrived, but by then the sun was too high and we had to shoot in our alternate inside location.

And this is the photo they used on the cover...

UCF Programming Team

It's nice to see academic excellence rewarded, and that's what we tried to showcase for the UCF Foundation annual report.  This photo showcased the UCF Programming Team who compete internationally because of a grant given for that purpose.  These kids are our future, and it looks promising.

Just to give you an idea of the photo they use on their website:

Syngenta Thrive magazine citrus

This assignment from Pace Communication was to shoot a Syngenta sales representative and client in the field for a magazine article about citrus "greening" disease.

Philanthropy Day video

Here’s a new video we just finished for National Philanthropy Day that was shown at a presentation for the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

It’s sort of a “This is your Life” with testimonials from friends and associates of award winner Jerry Hilbrich.  It’s a bit long, but that’s what they asked for.

Video Reel

This is a compilation of various video projects I've shot recently here in the Orlando area. I specialize in making my non-model subjects feel comfortable on camera, and I try to make even the most mundane situations look extraordinary.
Video clients on this reel include: UCF Foundation, Lakeside Inn, QmedRx, YMD Eye & Face, Windhorse Center, Ruth King, Atticus, First Green Bank.

Vac-Tron

One of the things I love about my job is the cool things I get to discover that most people never get to see.
Vac-Tron is a company that makes powerful truck-size vacuums that utilities use to clear dirt and liquids quickly from areas that would otherwise require a lot of shovel time.  http://www.vactron.com/
I was hired by Husebo Advertising  www.husebo.com to come up with photos for a brochure and I got to go behind the scenes for a couple of hours to document the construction process.

Music Man

Richard Lawrence is an extremely talented musician and I prodded him to do some photos that he could use for promoting his shows.
